Fantasy RPG Video Game Project
Long time, no blog!
Life treated me poorly, and life treated me well. I went dark on YouTube and most certainly here due to the fact that, put simply, I haven’t been playing TableTop Games. If you’re a nogames haver, you become a nogames talker.
My career situation has finally settled down, and I’ve had a strong itching to get back into TTRPG goodness, but I’ve been hesitant to commit to a weekly game. So hit me up if you have any drop in/drop out games going. That aside, I’ve always wanted to work on a video game RPG, and falling down the game development rabbit hole has given me the motivation to finally pursue it. I’m seeking people who would be willing to learn how to make games as a team.
It’s my aim to work in either Godot or Unity and to start focusing on creating systems to support strategy RPGs with classic D&D style gameplay. Think ye olde Baldur’s Gate. I have no intention or expectation to make this a financially rewarding endeavor, but rather a learning experience that, best case scenario, will result in a game that we can share with friends and anyone else who desires to play it.
So, here’s the plan for the time being:
- Begin recruiting parties interested in working on such a project. No game development experience is required. Anyone with an interest in learning how to create a game, whether it’s through programming, art, music, whatever is welcome. My main requirement is that you’re motivated, trustworthy, and respectful of the team members.
- Work on a Game Design Document for our first project, where we will start with a modest strategy RPG combat system and build on top of it (I have already started this). The GDD will give an idea of the collective vision we will build towards. We’ll share access to files and use Discord to communicate.
- Create! No deadlines, no micromanaging, no nothing. Just don’t ruin, shit on, or steal other people’s work.
I’m hoping I can find some people out there who are interested in joining in the project. But if it’s to be a solo venture, I’ll be cool with that, too. I’ll just share my progress as time goes on. Stay tuned!
